Late GG’s body to ‘Lie in State’ at Government House

The casket of late Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio will bid farewell to his home for six years this morning.

At 10:20am the casket of the country’s 9th Governor-General will be received by Acting Governor General Theo Zurenuoc at the Government House in Port Moresby.  

The casket will, ‘Lie In State’ for parliamentarians, head of departments, diplomatic corps, and other VIPs to pay their respect. 

The 75-year-old died at the Government House State residence on February 19, four days before his six year term expired.

Late Sir Michael assumed office on February 25, 2011.

On Friday will see the state funeral for the head of state, and his body to department Port Moresby for the Autonomous Region of Bougainville on Saturday.

Sir Michael is survived by his wife Lady Esmie Ogio, five children and eight grandchildren.
