Hard labor sentence for persistent assault

A man described by the courts of having “undercover” intensions, despite being a good community and active church member has been sentenced to nine years in hard labor for sexual assault.

The man from the central province was sentenced today after the Waigani National Court found him guilty to the persistent sexual assault of a minor, two years ago.

Justice, George Manuhu, in handing the sentence said despite being a good member of the community and an active church member, his “undercover intensions” have been exposed in the case, showing a not so good reflection of him.

A case of total contradiction, Justice Manuhu, said people like him can be very dangerous.

The man was arrested over the persistent sexual assault of his niece, at their family home in Port Moresby.

The girl who was 15 years old  in 2015, was sexually touched by her uncle on numerous occasions.

She would wake up in the middle of the night, feeling her uncle’s hands fondling her.

When she protested, she was threatened with black magic by the man, saying he would make her become insane.

The assault started in March of 2015 and continued for five months till he was caught.

He was sentenced today to nine years in prison. Two years in custody have been suspended from the prison term.

He will now spend 7 years with hard labor at Bomana.
