This year’s 2017 grade 12’s students will be the first to go through the first ever online selection to enter Higher Education Institutions in PNG.

Over 28, 000 students around the country will be sitting for their grade 12 exams which start next week.

The objective of the online selection process to improve transparency, accountability and most importantly increase the probability of capable and eligible school leavers in being admitted while ensuring institutions autonomy in selections process is maintained.

A seminar on online selection is currently underway today  to present to institutions the online selection system, and more specifically how the system will be utilised by institutions.

The department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology, together with PCG Academia; a Polish subsidiary of the American Public Consulting Group that successfully serves education sectors in the US, Canada and Europe.

Minister for Higher Education Research Science & Technology, Pila Niningi, said the rapid growth in the number of school leavers, particularly as a result of the National Tuition Fee Free Policy is astounding.

“The selection sector has grown to such a stage in which the way we select students must be improved on.”

“As a result, the department is looking at ways improve how it facilitates the National Selections.”

Minister Niningi said he is confident that the online selection will contribute to improving fairness, transparency and accountability in the education of the students.
