Gov’t yet to honor commitment to Western Province

About K18 million committed by the Government to fight Tuberculosis (TB) disease in Daru Hospital in Western Province has never reached the hospital.

South Fly MP Sekie Agisa raised this issue in Parliament today asking the Minister for Health to explain to his people as to what is the status of the commitment.

South Fly MP Sekie Agisa said Daru hospital is facing the shortage of various drugs and equipment to fight TB in the province.

He said the hospital has wind-down operations because no funds to operate the hospital.

“When will the Government honor its commitment and release the funds to address the issue of TB in Western Province?”

“The Daru hospital is running out of drugs and equipment that is forcing the hospital to wind-down its operations.”

In responds, Minister for Health Sir Puka Temu said the issue of shortage of supplies were routine things that hospitals normally run out of.

However, he said despite of such, the Government, with the help of donor funding is doing its best to get on top of the problem.

“The Government is on top of these issues and have worked closely with donor partners to address the issue.”

The Minister further reiterated that he is yet to be informed about the commitments made by the Government to Daru hospital and will let the people of Daru know by writing to the South Fly MP
