Gamato: National Logistics Plan is a step up for PNGEC

The PNG Electoral Commission this morning launched the National Logistics Plan for the conduct of the 2017 General Elections.

This is the first time that such a plan has been launched to support the 2017 National Elections.

Clear directions from the Government were to make sure that the Elections are free and fair and that they are conducted in a cost effective manner.

The directions were a result of a number of Observer Reports in the seven elections that the country has had so far.

Chief Secretary to Government, Issac Lupari said this is a milestone for PNGEC and is particularly aimed at achieving the second objective of the Logistics Plan to make sure the elections are conducted in a cost effective manner.

“The is the first for a plan that outlines how to go about in terms of coordination, procurement, services and materials that are need to assist the PNGEC.”

Lupari commended the Chief Electoral Commissioner and his senior management and the support staff who have been able to put this plan together.

“The Plan basically covers three parts; the procurement management guide, Logistics concept of operation and key logistics activity and timelines, all of which are the three important parts of the plan.”

Electoral Chief Commissioner, Patilias Gamato says as electoral process evolves, we are faced with complex and considerable management challenges and responsibilities to ensure elections are conducted fairly, effectively and efficiently.

“A significant part of our current and future challenge is effectively and efficiently managing the substantial logistics effort required to support elections in PNG so that the Government and the people in PNG receive value for money,” Gamato said.

He added that the introduction of the PNGEC National Logistics Plan is a significant milestone and the next step in the professional advancement of the PNGEC.
