Family disappointed with contradicting media reports

The Steljic family has expressed disappointment at the way their story has been handled and interpreted.

The family’s video of their escaping an attempted hold-up at Sogeri, caught by their dashboard camera, went viral during the weekend; capturing local and international attention.

This newsroom first reported the incident a day after it occurred where the wife, Roxy Steljic, spoke off camera and supplied the original video.

A few days after that traumatising Saturday (Oct 21) afternoon, conflicting media reports surfaced, casting shadows of doubt on the family.

However, Roxy confirms that her husband, Vlad, was driving at that time.

In a phone interview today, she said this could have been due to a misinterpretation of her statement.

“I think there’s been a misunderstanding when we were discussing this with another local TV station, there was another person with me; when they asked if I was the driver of the car, the other person responded – ‘Yes, she was in the car’ – so from that point I believe that they misunderstood and said I was the one driving.”

Furthermore, the driver and husband said he is disappointed that it has come to this.

“I really didn’t want this story to go public as it is, all I wanted it to be was a warning to others,” he said.

“Now why there is a contradicting story, I don’t really know and I don’t care. The point is, we were in the vehicle no one else was there. I was driving, that is the end of the story.

“Of course there will be sceptics online saying this was staged and all that kind of stuff, that’s fine. My job is not to convince them; I don’t make up stories. I wasn’t present when Roxy was meeting for the other interview, but we always maintain the same story.”

He added that their story can be verified at the Sogeri police station.
