Faceless political parties still getting paid

The Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates Commission says many political party executives who are not known by face still get paid regularly.

Registrar of Political Parties, Dr Alphonse Gelu, says to this day he still does not know some of the political party executives by face.

He says a one day forum will be held in Port Moresby for political parties who have representatives in parliament, and that is to know all the party executives.

“The reason why we are having this one day forum is for me to meet all the presidents, treasurers, and secretaries of political parties.

“You know we pay these guys every fortnight  and I don’t even know their faces,” he said.

“Every month I sign this form for their payment and I don’t even know them. I know the name but I don’t know the face,” Gelu added.

He said despite several learning and development workshop held in the previous couple of years many party executives still did not turn up.

Gelu during the forum they will have all the photographs of party executives taken and listed so they know who the party executives are.

The one day forum will be the only engagement between the Commission and the political parties before the elections.

Gelu says a diagnostic workshop will be held after the elections to review the elections.

Stakeholders such as the Ombudsman Commission, Transparency International, the Police, and media are expected to be invited as well for the workshop.
