Engans charged with attempted murder

Two men were charged and arrested for attempting to kill another man in Port Moresby.

Twenty-three-year-old Jacob Peter from Wakumale village and 32-year-old Max Peter – both from Enga Province – were arrested and charged with attempted murder under s.304 of the Criminal Code Act.

According to Court documents, Ezekiel Toma had an argument and later on fought with both defendants, armed with a bush knife and iron rod. The fight broke out and included relatives of the victim.

Police alleged that the second defendant, Max, and the victim sustained several cuts while the victim was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital for treatment and not the defendant.

Both defendants were reported to Gerehu Police Station and were then reported to Criminal Investigation Division Boroko for further investigation.

Defendant one, Jacob, admitted but stated that the victim started the fight, however the second defendant claimed that he was not involved during the attack.

Police alleged that several witness statements obtained showed his involvement during the attack, therefore both defendants were arrested and charged with one count each of attempted murder.

On the 22nd of November, both defendants appeared in the District Court Waigani, and are still in custody while police investigate the matter.
