Education Department to improve data collection for schools

The Department of Education is working on a program to improve data collection for all schools in the country.

The development of the program started three years ago and aims to have all the profiles of the school systems in the country captured into one central system.

Minister for Education Nick Kuman said this process makes it easy to distribute the tuition free fees (TFF) payments to all schools.

“We must ensure that profiles for schools are registered in a data base system so we would know vital information like where the school is located, its registration number and level of the school.

“The headmaster’s responsibility is to ensure that all other information that we want must be captured.

“I hope that the next government can pick up on the work that we are doing to ensure that we have a central data base that can give some near accuracy and accurate information,” Kuman said.

Kuman stressed that the program enables proper planning and track the amount of support the Government is providing in terms of TFF and commodity components.

Secretary for Education Dr Uke Kombra added that in terms of data collection, they have over the years tried to get the right information and in real time.

Dr Kombra highlighted that the Department of Education issued National School Census forms about 10 years ago and that forms the basis of the data they collect from schools.
