Dr Kombra condemns Ningerum High arson

The Secretary for Education Dr. Uke Kombra has strongly condemned the act of arson of school infrastructure by students.

Dr. Kombra’s comments come after the recent arson at Ningerum High School in Western Province on September 12th.

Dr. Kombra said burning down of the school buildings is not the solution to any problems hence demanding for the ill behaviour to stop.

He warned the schools that the frequency of school fires must now prompt the school authorities to take tough control measures on discipline of students.

Dr Kombra challenged schools and students to consider both the financial and consequential loss immediately making reference to the arson at Kila Kila Secondary School last month.

He said although no major tragedies like the loss of lives had occurred still there is every reason to be worried and to take necessary precautions to prevent calamities. These incidents are a premonition of possible disasters.

He urged schools to be alert, open avenues for constant dialogue with students to defuse discontent and, more importantly, enforce tight security to prevent destructive behaviours.

Dr. Kombra is also urging parents and guardians to have serious conversations with their children about such unbecoming behaviours.
