Do not panic, NCD public advised

NCD Governor, Powes Parkop is advising the public not to panic about the presence of armed security personnel in NCD as posted on Facebook and social media since Friday.

He said he was equally concerned and petrified by the news but after confirming with the Police Commissioner, the security company was engaged early this year to train our special police force units.

“Due to public scare and this being election time, such presence can be very misleading and can lead to people making lots of unwarranted claims to create instability in the city.”

He said he had advised the Police Commissioner, Gary Baki, to restrict these personnel to Bomana Training Centre and kept indoors in secured premises and not to be in public places and displaying their firearms.

The general public is urged not to speculate and be misled to think that they are mercenaries in our country here to create instability or here as APEC police or any such.

“They are here specially to train the special police units on combat and other specialised training programs. More details on how long they will be here and the exact details of their assignment will be informed to me by the Police Commissioner and I shall keep everyone updated.”
