Deportation stay further extended

Interim orders issued by the National court restraining Immigration Minister, Petrus Thomas, from deporting three Bangladeshi nationals have been further extended to next week.

The reason behind the extension is to give more time to Justice Jim Wala Tamate, to deliberate on his decision.

The matter was briefly mentioned on Thursday where Justice Tamate extended the stay to next week Thursday, where he will give his ruling on an application by Jashim Jashim.

Jashim, Hossain Mhamman Mobarak and Rahman Siddiqur are facing deportation back to their homes due to their status as non-genuine refugees.

They filed urgent applications before the Human Rights track against their deportation, which was temporarily stayed.

Two of their friends, who also filed such urgent applications in court were deported last week.

They were deported by the PNG Immigration and handed over to Bangladeshi Authorities.
