Death penalty for ‘merciless killing’

A Sepik man has been given the death penalty by the Kimbe National Court over what the court described as a merciless and abrupt killing of a 14-year-old boy.

The incident occurred at the Galai Oil Palm settlement in West New Britain.

Wesley Yanduo of Yandokum, Kubalia, East Sepik Province, wilfully murdered 14-year-old Naegel John Las on 6th of December 2015.

It was a cold blooded killing, in revenge for the earlier killing of one Isaac Vitalis from section 13 killed by boys from section 16, all from the same Galai Oil Palm settlement.

The 25-year-old father-of-three and the deceased were at a compensation payment gathering when a fight broke out.

Yanduo ambushed and cut the victim on the wrist and head, using a bush knife, exposing his brain matter which caused him to bleed to death.

The 14-year-old deceased also originated from Sepik.

The court said he did not hesitate to inflict injury on the boy who was defenseless, trying to escape the violence from the armed man.

Compensation demand of K100,000 could not be met by the prisoner.

Yanguo was sentenced to death. He now has 40 days to file an appeal if he wishes to.

He joins 20 others awaiting the execution of their death penalty.
