Court bail suspect involved in robbery: Police

Bail surety should be charged when people, released on Court bail, recommit a crime.

Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr made this comment following crimes committed by people out on Court Bail in the Morobe provincial capital.

“Police will be consulting the Public Prosecutor," he said.

People who become bail guarantors should also be dealt with when the defendant breaches bail  conditions.

Meanwhile, a suspect has been apprehended in connection to the armed robbery at Rabtrad Supermarket last Saturday.

Wagambie Jnr said the suspect was identified on the CCTV footage because he was not wearing a mask.

He added that the suspect was out on a National Court bail for a robbery he committed last year.

“When brought in for identification by eyewitnesses, he was positively identified,” Lae polic boss said.

“This is the second time Police have apprehended armed robbery suspects who have been released on bail. The first was from the Fone Haus robbery last month.

"It is becoming a trend that, most of these suspects who were released on bail are now either masterminding or actually taking part in robberies and other serious crimes.”
