Citizen’s arrest applauded

A citizen’s arrest was conducted in Manus last week by village ward councilors, which has seen a suspect placed in police custody.

Police in Manus have extended their appreciation to the leaders for bringing in a man who was suspected of attacking another local last week, which caused his death.

Provincial police commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, thanked the five ward councilors of Pere village for applying citizen’sarrest and bringing in a suspect from Patusi village.

Yapu said everyone must take ownership of law and order to make communities free and safe.

Police allege the man from Patusi attacked another from Pao village in the Tetidu LLG with a bush knife, causing serious wounds to his head, hand, hips and knees.

He was rushed to Lorengau where he was hospitalized last Tuesday but succumbed to his injuries yesterday (Sunday).

PPC Yapu said his body remains at the morgue for an autopsy.
