BRC chairman visits Bougainville

Chairman of the Bougainville Referendum Commission, Bertie Ahern, is currently in Bougainville for a three day referendum roadshow to gauge views from the people on the road to referendum, set on October 12.

Ahern is accompanied by BRC Commissioners Dr Thomas Webster, George Manuhu, Patrick Nisira, Robert Igare, Ruby Mirinka and the Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato.

He will be visiting Arawa, Buin and Buka constituencies.

The Bougainville Referendum Commission (BRC) is now progressing with the third phase of updating the Referendum Roll in Bougainville.

This exercise is part of the three-phase enrolment plan that BRC will be undertaking to update and finalise the roll in preparation for the upcoming Referendum.

The BRC says it is important to note that in order to vote in the Referendum, a person must be on the Referendum Roll. Persons who are not on the Referendum Roll will not be able to vote in the Referendum.

“It is the duty of the BRC to offer reasonable facilities to enrol while it is each person’s responsibility to actually enrol.”

Ahern will depart Bougainville on Friday for Port Moresby.
