B’villean voters in POM to register this Saturday

Bougainvilleans above 18 years, living in Port Moresby, can register on the referendum roll this Saturday, June 15, during the Bougainville Day celebrations at Sir John Guise Stadium.

The Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the Port Moresby Bougainville Association, will be conducting registration and enrolment of eligible voters on Saturday.

All eligible Bougainvilleans living outside Bougainville are urged to come forward and register between 8am to 4pm.

NCD election manager Terrence Hetinu will be in charge and registration may be extended to ensure all eligible Bougainville voters are given the opportunity to register.

For Bougainvilleans living outside Port Moresby, the same process will be involved, with PNGEC’s provincial electoral officers to facilitate enrolment.

Enrolment forms are currently being printed in Port Moresby and will be dispatched soon to all PNGEC's Provincial Electoral Offices nationwide to assist Bougainville Electoral Commission and the Bougainville Referendum Commission in registering all eligible Bougainvilleans living outside of Bougainville on the Referendum Roll.

As it is a constitutional right to vote in the referendum, Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato in a statement said the referendum is rare internationally and unique only to Bougainville, and one must make it their business to register to have their say on the political future of Bougainville.
