Article on police boss’ transfer refuted

Enga’s Provincial Police Commander was suspended for being absent without official leave (AWOL), says the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Operations, Donald Yamasombi.

The interim Senior Inspector, Epenes Nili, has been appointed as the acting PPC for Enga until further notice.

Yamasombi made the clarification following a report by one of the dailies, alluding to the transfer of Superintendent Joseph Tondop to Jiwaka.

“It is totally unprofessional and irresponsible to report in the newspaper that the PPC for Enga, Superintendent Joseph Tondop, has been moved to Jiwaka,” Yamasombi stated.

“I am saying it is totally irresponsible because the newspaper failed to confirm this information either with myself or with the Highlands Western Deputy Commander, Nema Mondiai.

“I call upon the media to be more responsible and meticulous in their reporting to ensure that they report on facts and not hearsay, gossip or rumours,” said Yamasombi, adding that such incorrect media reports have the potential to seriously affect police operations in both commands.
