The Bomana War Cemetery came alive with song and commendations this morning to commemorate the 75th ANZAC Anniversary.
An estimated 500 people attended the Dawn Service to remember fallen heroes during the World War II.
The ceremony was attended by PNG Governor-Genera Bob Dadae and his wife Hannah, as well as his Australian counterpart currently on tour on PNG, Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lynda.
Also present was Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davies, Japanese Ambassador to PNG, and other members of the diplomatic corp, visiting Australians and locals.
The Keynote speeches were presented by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, and Sir Peter, before the laying of wreaths at the foot of the cemetery landmark.
Sir Peter when presenting his wreath was accompanied by Fuzzy Wuzzy veteran, Havala Laula, 90, from Kokoda, Northern Province.
The ceremony ended with the performing of the National Anthem of PNG, Australia, New Zealand, and a fly over the cemetery by three Puma helicopters and two F18 Hornets fighter jets.
