3 years of APEC preps for PNGDF

The PNG Defence Force has been preparing for the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit for the last three years.

PNGDF Commander, Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo, says he is satisfied with the preparations so far.

“We’ve been through and had the support of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Force to train and prepare our special forces groups.”

This also includes the ongoing activities that the PNGDF conducts with its bilateral partners that additionally built and prepared the organisation.

Toropo said the Force has had manpower posted into the Joint Taskforces Security office that is currently on full time.

Request has been put forward to its bilateral partners to come and fill in areas where the Force does not have the capability to maintain alone, such as aerial surveillance and maritime security areas.

“From the point of view for the PNGDF, we are ready to perform our duty towards the APEC Leaders’ Summit in 2018,” says Toropo.
