‘No tribal fighting’ declaration

A declaration saying no to tribal fighting, no to drug abuse and no to all forms of violence against women and children will be made in Enga Province next month.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Tondop, says the launch of the program to address law and order issues in the province will be held on November 30.

PPC Tondop since taking over the Enga post in July has held three Police Community Consultative meetings in Wabag over the status of law and order issues in the province.

Tribal fighting, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS and all forms of violence against women and children were highlighted by the PPC as issues hindering the progress of the province.

It was agreed on the third meeting on 12 October to launch an action plan that will involve the communities taking ownership to address these issues.

The PPC stressed that the future of Enga children is at stake if nothing is done to address these issues.

On the launching day of November 30, the people of Enga will stage a declaration to say no to tribal fights, no to drug abuse and all forms of violence against women and children.

School children, church groups, public servants and NGOs, will take part in the launch through various activities affiliating to the declaration of Enga becoming a trouble free province.
