Team PNG is good to go

Team PNG is primed and ready for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games, assures Chef de Mission, Emma Waiwai.

The contingent of 148 athletes will see Team PNG take part in 10 of the 14 sports on offer which include boxing, netball, golf, tennis and weightlifting.

At the last Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna in 2013, Team PNG topped the medal tally winning 30 gold medals.

“From the analysis done by our office, thanks to Chris Amini, we forecast winning 45 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 24 bronze bronze medals. Will that be enough to come number one again? We’ll find out. For now, we’ll focus on the process and the results will come,“said Waiwai.

She added Team PNG is raring to go.

“These athletes are all primed and ready to take up the challenge. They go knowing that the country has faith and trust in them.

“They are ready to compete with the best and come back with the spoils. They are going to go and make sure our national anthem will be sung more times so it becomes a household tune in Port Vila.”

The first batch for Team PNG leaves for Vanuatu this week, with the rest to depart next week.

The tenth edition of the Pacific Mini Games will run from December 4-15.
