Five confirmed dead in tragic Boera accident

A family of three from Tubuserea village were among five casualties that have been confirmed dead following the fatal accident at Boera, Central Province, yesterday afternoon.

A pastor, his wife and their son were travelling with at least 20 other passengers on a Hino truck when the accident occurred. They were on their way to a church gathering in Boera.

Former Central Provincial Police commander, Laimo Asi, who was at the scene, confirmed with this newsroom that the accident occurred between 3 and 4pm on the road heading to Boera village.

He said it was a heartrending accident that caused the lives of innocent people.

He described the scene as bloody and very tragic.

Asi noted that the other passengers were fortunate however, they too received some very serious injuries.

Among the injured is a six-month-old baby who was in a very serious condition yesterday at the Port Moresby General Hospital emergency.

Details into the accident are yet to be released.
