Hubert Murray Stadium nears completion

Work on the Sir Hurbert Murray stadium is set to be completed soon.

Governor for NCD, Powes Parkop says that work by the National Capital District Commission is on track.

Parkop said the stadium will have a capacity of up to 25 to 30 thousand people.

“I am confident that it will be bigger and better than the Oil Search National Football Stadium and Sir John Guise,” Parkop said.

He said not only will it house more seats, but it will also be in a secured environment down by the harbor.

Parkop adds that next year onwards, hopefully, PNG or Port Moresby can be able to host regional, local and international sporting events so the stadium can be used.

He said he is happy with the investment made in rugby league, and hopefully they get to invest in other sporting codes as well to get more sporting events hosted in the country’s sporting facilities.

“They can do their part in promoting our country, the young people in sports while also give a platform for the young to attain self-confidence contributing to the country’s image.”
