Youth: Don’t measure your life to a certificate

Don’t measure your life to a certificate or money.

This is the message of a young man, once considered a youth with no value in his community.

Jackson Kiap’s story of transformation begins with his friend Allan Mogerema.

Mogerema was a pioneer youth in PNG who took the challenge to try something different from the rest, by learning yoga.

This step opened the door to countless opportunities including travelling the world, and eventually lending a full time job as a yoga instructor, which apparently, is a demand.

“I am also a dropout, so when I saw this changes in his life, I knew that I could experience the same,” Mogerema said.

“I wished to go back to school and I had other dreams but when situation doesn’t allow, I had to create one for myself and yoga was my way out.”

Now the lead instructor in Port Moresby, Kiap speaks with deep passion for this art that changed his life.

“I have created a space for other youth to become a trainer and earn a living with it,” he said.

Kiap has trained three batches – roughly 150 yogis. He says it is now up to them to take up the challenge to change.

“Message to the youth, instead of laying idle, take part in little things. Don’t measure your life to a certificate or a money; these will come. Do what you can.”
