POM career expo underway

A career expo for secondary schools in NCD is underway at the Port Moresby National High School.

The one week expo started on Monday, August 14, and will end on Friday, August 18.

The event has seen a number of tertiary institutions set up booths at the school hall where students visit. These participants include three universities and mostly private institutions.

The event is organised and coordinated yearly by a career expo committee, which is made up of a representative from each secondary school in NCD.

The host school’s deputy principal, who is also on the committee, Gevena Gwaibo, said over the few days, Grade 12 students from about 22 secondary schools in Port Moresby have been visiting.

“This career expo is a very important event for our students in NCD. The aim is to ensure that our Grade 12 students get as much information on universities and other private institutions, especially the course information and the GPA requirements, so that they can make informed decisions for the SLF (school leaver form) they’ll be filling in for their 1st and 2nd choice,” she said

NCD was the first province to have initiated this event. Gwaibo notes at least two more provinces who’ve taken on this idea and commends them.
