Polio centre reschedules campaign

The Polio Outbreak Response National Emergency Operations Centre has announced the re-scheduling of the round 2 of the polio vaccination campaign in Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands to 20 August – 02 September 2018.

The re-scheduling is necessary as it will allow the Emergency Operations Centre to regroup and increase resources to meet the demand.

The high turnout of children at the designated areas for vaccination in Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands provinces indicates that the demand is high and further showing the commitment and concern of parents of children under the age of 5.

The high figures are promising and enabling the vaccinators to protect more children under 5 years old in the three provinces of Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands.

However, the increased demand has given rise to the need to order more vaccine.

This will take additional time to transport to Papua New Guinea and to the health facility level.

The re-scheduling will also enable the Polio Outbreak Response National Emergency Operations Centre to mobilise more human and logistical support to the districts, especially those in hard-to-reach areas.
