An inspiration for students

The third Media Education Seminar for Catholic students was held at Sivarai Namona, Bomana, from May 4thto the 6th.

The three-day program had over 50 participants consisting of students from seven schools with their teachers and animators.

The program commenced with interactive games, evening prayer and rosary.

The first session animated by Fr Ambrose Pereira sdb entitled ‘The Problem Tree’ enabled the participants to reflect on the issues they face in life today.

“It is a way of helping the students take a closer look at the difficult issues they face and search for solutions to them,” he said.

On the second day, a lively Eucharistic mass was held to start the day where the students all participated with vigour. The session focused on radio and basic video shots.

Radio Maria was present to record and edit the students’ jingles and dramas.

‘Touching minds, transforming hearts’ and ‘The importance of Silence’ highlighted the need for the young people to be catalysts in our changing world.

The opportunity to speak on camera and view their short speeches enabled the participants to view how they present themselves to others. It has given them the confidence to speak before an audience.

The storyboard activity then prepared them for the one-minute video film on Life and Love.

Caritas student, Ruth Oa Leteng, stated: “I have learnt a lot about media and how to handle my camera and gadgets but mostly of how to love life and live life it to the fullest.”

From Jubilee, one student said: “There were many important things that we learnt. We will share it with our companions at school.”

Sunday morning was dedicated to act, shoot and editing their short films.

All the institutions were able to complete their films. ‘Unleash’, ‘Sharing is Caring’ and the ‘Power of Words’ were some of the short films produced by the participants.

The participating schools were Jubilee Catholic Secondary, Marianville Secondary, Caritas Technical School, Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), Limana Vocational, Don Bosco Technological Institute and Sacred Heart Teachers College.

All appreciated the weekend of interaction and learning and look forward to their final presentation on the 4th August, 2018.

One-minute films on: Youth Alive! Celebrating ‘Life and Love’ are invited from other students as well.
