Free medical checks for students

This is the last week for free medical examinations for students.

The checks will be conducted by doctors who are members of the PNG Emergency Medicine fraternity attached to Emergency Departments, in particular at the Port Moresby General and Gerehu hospitals in Port Moresby.

The free medical checks are also applicable to Angau, Modilon, Mt. Hagen and Popondetta hospitals where other specialists are based and located.

Chief - Emergency Medicine, Sam Yockopua, says this is their community service to the support received from the community.

“This is an important partnership therefore parents and students must make use of these services.”

Dr Yockopua says it is for all ranges of students; in particular secondary and tertiary.

For Port Moresby residents, the free medical checks will be done between 2: 30-3:30pm this week (starting tomorrow) at the Emergency Department Resource Room at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

“Students are to inquire at the Emergency Department reception area whereby a clerk will be there to assist and collect medical examinations forms and make a list,” stated Dr Yockopua.

“A doctor will do examinations and sign off accordingly.”

All the while, awareness will also be carried out for students to keep healthy, study hard for good grades and to keep away from unhealthy behaviour like chewing, smoking, drinking alcohol and other social behaviour that are likely to affect their studies.

“This is all part of the community service for the Department of Port Moresby General Hospital and the Emergency Medical Fraternity of PNG,” Yockopua adds.
