Elevala women happy with cancer awareness

Women who participated in the Breast and Cervical cancer workshop expressed their appreciation as well as concerns of the awareness at the Royal Papua Yacht Club.

In an interview with Elevala Women’s Fellowship Social Committee leader, Igo Morea, she said it was a good opportunity and an eye opener to learn the basics each of the different types of cancer that commonly exist in our country.

Joy Tera, another young woman employed with Fair Fax, said the PNGCF has done a great job in educating the young women present in this session.

Both participants agreed however, that more awareness is needed in the local and volatile communities and the rural populations of the country.

“We also have people out there who are dying of this illness because of the lack basic awareness and or the simple task of teaching them how to detect cancer and why it is important for them to go for regular checkups,” they said.

Most participants said understanding the Foundation's theme of “Let’s Talk Cancer”, it would not only be the responsibility of the Foundation to carry out awareness but to take what they’ve learnt in today’s session and share it with their circle of friends and families.

“Talking about cancer in our normal conversations is not only to give awareness but it could help save a life down the line,” they said.
