Company behind FB trending Tambul home

The picture of a Tambul home which had Papua New Guineans talking on Facebook has shone light on PNG Earth Bricks Limited.

The local company (PNG Earth Bricks) responsible for the construction of the unique house is owned by Nixon Poia.

Poia registered his business in 2013 and began construction on the Asian design house in 2014, using bricks made from his company - PNG Earth Bricks Limited, based in Tambul.

The mix, according to Poia, includes a special soil type from his area (tested and approved by authorities), when baked, obtains the natural burnt umber type of colour.

“Not only is the house made out of locally sourced materials, but it is quality and looks good. If we use our natural resources to their full potential, we won’t have to spend money on imported materials and still have stylish homes. We are blessed with a lot of resources, it just calls for our innovation and creativity,” Nixon said.

He adds that this has even created job opportunities for at least 30 other locals, producing around 8-10 000 bricks per production.

“So I’ve shared this skill with them and together we’re working on a couple of small projects,” Nixon added.

The house that got the attention of Papua New Guinea is nearly completed, awaiting final touches.
