Civil society meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

The voice of the civil society will be put forward to the government by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

Hussein is currently in the country conducting an official visit at the invitation of the Government.

In a roundtable discussion this morning in Port Moresby, members of the civil society met with the high commissioner for human rights to raise their issues and challenges.

"We had a fruitful meeting with the civil society, listening to their representatives," he said.

Hussein will then bring the views and issues to the government.

He will be meeting with Prime Minister Peter O'Neill next and the rest of the day with other senior ministers and United Nations country representatives.

This is Hussein's first visit to PNG.

"I Look forward to discussions to come," he said.
