Catholics light second candle of Advent

Catholics throughout the country lit the second candle of Advent today in preparation for Christmas.

In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation, extending over four Sundays, before Christmas.

At the St Joseph Parish in Port Moresby, Father Paul explained that the first candle that was lit last Sunday represents Hope in Christ.

It is to remind Catholic faithful of Jesus Christ, the saviour born a king in the line of King David and the belief that he will come again to fulfill all of God’s promises to mankind.

The second candle lit today was the candle of peace.

Parishioners were told that the candle of peace serves to remind them that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and that through him, peace is found.

Christians everywhere are gearing towards Christmas Day, which is two Sundays away.

And while many look forward to all the joyous activities that come with the season, each Christian must be reminded of the message behind the celebration of Christmas Day.

It brings with it new Hope, Peace, Joy and Love through the celebration of the birth of Christ Jesus.
