Caring for fresh tattoos

A tattoo is technically a wound, says Kiel Marquez of Trends Tattoo.

Hence, he stresses the importance of taking proper care.

A new tattoo may swell, turn into a blister or worse case, pus, if not treated well.

At trends, an after-care instructions is usually provided to clients on the basics of after-care process.

“A tattoo is an art. I don’t want it to be spoilt. So we give the instructions, to preserve the art,” he said.

Here, Kiel sheds a few tips:

  • The sun is a tattoo’s number one enemy. Direct exposure to the sun fades the natural pigment ink and can also cause infections.

  • You pat dry it with warm water, put moisturiser three times a day, avoid the sun or put a cloth to cover it

  • Don’t scratch it when it’s itchy and don’t peel off when it’s peeling

  • Let it heal by itself

“Tattoos are very delicate. Some people think a tattoo is forever. Yes it is, but if you don’t take care of it, it will look really bad. That’s why we give out instructions on the aftercare,” he said.
