Cancer has no gender

Men have been called on to be more interactive in terms of cancer awareness in the country.

This was part of the message today from the PNG Cancer Foundation who carried out a cancer awareness drive at the Digicel PNG Headquarters in Port Moresby.

Loyla Mathew a health Educator with the Cancer foundation encouraged staff present at the session to be mindful of the factors leading up as well as signs and symptoms of cancer.
The cancer awareness drive today was focused on creating awareness not just among women, but among men folk as well.

Emphasis was placed on men changing the perception that cancer was a women’s health agenda.

The foundation’s health educator, Loyla Mathew outlined that such gender based stereotypes needed to be done away with in order for real progress in the fight against cancer.

Meantime, Mathew also took the opportunity to thank Digicel PNG while also encouraging other organizations to come on board with the foundation and raise awareness on cancer while at the same time help raise funds to support their worthy cause to save lives.

Meanwhile, this morning’s breakfast awareness and fundraising drive saw Digicel staff bake and sell cup cakes with funds raised to be donated to the foundation.
