Bebi Kol Kilok in EHP

Bebi Kol Kilok is a new initiative aimed to reduce child mortality rates in the country.

As it is, PNG is still ranked 20 out of 193 countries.

The project is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs Trade through the technical support of UNICEF and implemented by National Department of Health and its partners like the Touching The Untouchables (TTU).

With the Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority, BKK was rolled out in the province, particularly at the Goroka Provincial Hospital and Henganofi District.

BKK is a wristband put on new born babies to monitor their temperature for the first 28 days.

BKK falls under the Comprehensive Newborn Care Initiative (CNCI).

10 months into the program now, a planned group has travelled to the pilot-side to get firsthand information on the successes and challenges of the Comprehensive Newborn Survival Initiative (CNSI) and other maternal and child health initiatives that have impacted on the lives of women and children.

The group comprises of NDOH, UNICEF, DFAT and journalists.

They will travel from Goroka to Henganofi Health Centre, visit a few communities, and will also take time to see the Labour ward, special care nursery, and post-natal ward at the Goroka Provincial Hospital.
