54th Medical Symposium underway

The 54th PNG Medical Symposium is underway at the Divine Word University in Madang.

More than 300 PNG and international doctors, scientists and health researchers are in Madang for the event.

The theme for the symposium is Rural Health Services in PNG.

Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, Sir Puka Temu, in his keynote address during the opening ceremony, emphasised that primary health care should be at the core of heath service delivery in the country.

He said the PNG Medical Society, as a legitimate body, is the voice of rural health workers in the country.

Sir Puka extended his appreciation to rural workers, the Church Health Services and the private sector for the continuation in supporting and delivering health services in the country.

President of the PNG Medical Health Society, Professor Nakapi Tefuarani welcomed every participant and acknowledged the hard work of the organising committee.

He also extended his welcome to the doctors and professors who are taking part in the symposium.

Vice Chancellor of Divine Word University, Professor Cecilia Nembou, welcomed the participants saying the University is always a partner in the country’s development.

The symposium will end this Friday.
