‘Be a Hero’ blood donation drive a success

The first "Be a Hero” blood donation drive for the year 2018 successfully concluded on January 24.

The Pacific International Hospital team interacted with more than 200 participants within the Vision City Mall, Port Moresby.

The team spread awareness about the various advantages of blood donation, answered queries and broke wrongly held myths about blood donation.

“Blood donation can help burn calories and even reduce risk of cancer and liver diseases,” said PIH.

“A single person's donation of blood can be instrumental in saving the lives of 3 people.”

The drive was initiated ahead of the upcoming visit from the international cardiac surgeon team who will be performing complicated open heart surgery on patients of the Pacific International Hospital between 26th & 30th January.

More than 30 people volunteered to go down to the PIH Clinic (within VC Mall) and donate their blood for this worthy cause.

All volunteers for the "Be a Hero" campaign received refreshments, a certificate of appreciation, a PIH Blood Donation Card and a free T-shirt.

“PIH continues to be in need of blood, especially for surgeries and trauma cases and blood types like A+ or O- have been difficult to collect in the past,” said the team.
