Fiji considering 'wide reaching' pay increases

The Fijian government is undertaking a review of hourly wage rates with the aim of wide-reaching pay rises including to the miniumum wage.

Fiji's Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said after the review was completed, tens of thousands of Fijians earning hourly rates would stand to benefit.

International experts will oversee the review, which will include nationwide consultations with both workers and employers, as well as input from the International Labour Organization, he said.

Fiji's minimum wage is $FJ2.68 about $US1.26 per hour.
