Ruby Laufa inspires fashion collection

Ruby Ann Laufa may have passed, but her spirit will surely live on through the Queen Ruby Collection.

The spirit of the former Miss PNG was brought to life at the Miss Pacific islands Pageant (MPIP) project runway last night in Port Moresby.

For the first time since the announcement, fashion designer Yana Copeland showcased the Queen Ruby Collection on the runway.

The 25 year old designer is one of late Ruby’s closest friends.

She said the collection was in honour and memory of her late friend.

“Ruby Ann was my inspiration to design this female elegance,” said Copeland.

Copeland described her friend as sophisticated, elegant, beautiful, bright and vibrant. These personalities are captured in the Queen Ruby Collection.

The collection brought onto the stage showcased two day wear, two evening wear, two sarong wear and one traditionally inspired dress (TID).

The TID was a combination of cross-cultures between Papua New Guinea and other pacific neighbours, speaking the identity of designer Yana.

The dress was modelled by late Ruby’s younger sister - Sheridan Laufa, a fitting tribute to the passing queen who died in February 11, 2017.

The Queen Ruby Collection was showcased with a bold statement by the designer - “Every women is a queen…be bold for change!”
