RAP-TURE 2017 – Flip the Script launches

Tonight the journey to identify the next big rap artist in PNG begins!

The Cosmopolitan club is launching RAP-TURE 2017 – Flip the Script competition.

This is its second year which will see the club present 20 young rappers competing over the course of 8 weeks.

Each contestant will introduce themselves with a 5 min freestyle performance tonight that should set the pace and give a sneak-peak into the coming weeks.

The show is hyped to showcase off “the dopest rhymes, hottest lines and sickest flows with rhythm and rhyme”.

The competition was introduced last year in 2016, riding on the growing hip-hop culture in the capital city.

Meantime, the first ever winner, a young student from the University of Papua New Guinea - Noxxy Dawg, has gone on to record a song with Planet Native’s Yansa-Q.

Noxxy will mentor the contestants for the launch and Heat 1 of the competition.

The coming weeks will also see other big names in PNG’s underground hip-hop movement coming on board to mentor contestants in each heat.

This new “guest mentor” concept is to give contestants exposure to the seasoned rappers who can impart different concepts to what they’re expected to perform.

The contestants are allowed a week’s practise and eliminations begin in the semi-finals.
