PNG Music foundation takes off

The PNG music foundation is hosting a fundraising dinner this March.

Confirmed for March 1st, the music body is asking for corporate help to prepare for three main things this year; to travel out, to participate in APEC and to establish a proper music industry.

Samson Sala is a musician from Southern Highlands. He left former band Lerams of Kagua, and recorded two albums under his own name Samson Sala.

Sala established PNG music foundation in 2016 to push for contemporary music.

He has grown his connection globally and has been travelling to international music events with a few music groups linked to the foundation.

Last year alone, the group travelled to 8 different countries including Israel, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

Whilst the group performed in local events the response was not as good as the ones at the  international events.

Sala said the world is interested in PNG contemporary music and this has opened doors for them.

For this year, they have been invited to Boston, New York for the UN peace, to Italy and even Germany.

Sala said in line with the APEC meet this year, the foundation is aligning itself with the goal for e-commerce by doing i-Music. This is still under progress, he said.

But the ultimate goal is to establish a music industry, and work towards economic empowerment for local musicians.

To raise the much needed funds for these, Sala said the foundation is hosting this fundraising dinner, which will be held at Holiday Inn from 2pm – 8pm.

He is welcoming any support and attendance to this course. Contributions can also be made to the Westpac Bank account under the name PNG Music & Culture Production (Account #: 6005128073).
