PNG Fashion Week confirmed

After a year off, PNG Fashion Week has been confirmed for this year.

But under a new team, the fashion week promises to be bigger than the initial year – 2016.

Set for the 4th - 7th April, 2018, the one week will see 8 new runway shows in 3 locations within Port Moresby.

PNGFW managing director, Philma Kelegai, said this platform is designed to see locals grow their talent.

PNG Fashion Week is the premier fashion event of Papua New Guinea.

Its objective is to create and nurture the growth of the fashion, textile and beauty industry in PNG in order to support local SMEs, influence and stimulate the growth of the PNG economy and create opportunities in the international market for Papua New Guineans.

The theme is "a 1000 dresses, a 1000 tribes".

“PNG is plethora of language, culture, art, colour and we are the standard in diversity, equal to none. This theme encompasses the very essence of who we are and sets the tone for the PNG Fashion Week 2018 platform,” said Kelegai.

She added that 2018 is set to be a big year for Papua New Guinea and PNG Fashion Week.

She said PNGFW will employ locals, engage local SMEs and boost tourism through fashion.

“It will contribute to changing mindsets and economically empower disenfranchised groups,” she said.

“It will inject new life into the sleeping giant that is the fashion, textile and beauty industry in PNG.

“This is a platform that recognises the power of partnership and collaboration.

“We are Melanesian, it’s within us to build relationships that foster positive growth for our people. It is our goal to reach the finish line together and to contribute to our nation’s development,” Kelegai added.

PNG Fashion Week invites PNG designers and models to apply to PNG Fashion Week by 28th February, 2018.
