K30 thousand raised by Artists for a cause concert

The Artists for a cause concert has been the biggest of its kind.

Held last weekend, the concert saw more than 20 talents both singers, musicians and a visual artist collaborate to raise funds for the earthquake survivors of Hela and Southern Highlands provinces.

The target was to raise K50 thousand but they generated K30 thousand.

Nevertheless, music artist BIGG MACC says for a group of artists, these outcome was great.

The funds have been distributed over three groups – K10 thousand each to Mendi Common Centre, Pimaga Care Centre (Kutubu) and Hela.

Hela Deputy Provincial Administrator Eddie Yuwi was in Port Moresby yesterday to receive the funds allocated to the Hela Provincial Government.

Over the weekend, a few of the artists will be flown into the province to present the remaining funds to the other two groups.

Receiving the cheque yesterday, Yuwi assured that the money will be properly utilised.

“We will make sure it reaches the width and breadth of Hela,” he said.

Artists who participated were also impressed with the turnout.

Renowned visual artist Jeffry Feeger who was given a space to do a live painting performance on stage encouraged other artists to join such causes.

“We have the opportunity to evolve contemporary culture in PNG and when such disasters occur, it’s an opportunity for us to stay united,” he said.

His painting will be auctioned at another fundraiser event and money directed to the same cause.

Wame Blood Johnny Yawari said the group hopes to do another concert at a more public venue.

For long-time artist and producer B-Rad, this is the first he participated in such an event and said unity will see the growth of music industry in PNG.
