Farming PNG premieres today

Papua New Guinea has a massive potential for growth in the agricultural industry.

Farming PNG outlines the potential of agriculture in PNG through film in a 75-minute documentary, putting together the moments of a visual journey along the country’s agricultural sector.

The film is presented by Steven Woodhouse, who is an agronomist with decades of experience working in the agricultural sector from the Highland regions of PNG to the New Guinea Islands region.

Graduated from London Film School, director of Farming PNG, Marco Vendetti says the documentary highlights the potential of an industry that reaches deep into the heart of the nation.

“The film also includes some of the challenges that have hindered the growth of the industry over the years,” he adds.

With the City Pharmacy Group (CPL) being one of the major sponsors, its corporate social team has been a driving force in helping and supporting local farmers by creating a fresh produce depot so farmers can be able to sell their produce to earn an income.

CPL special project development manager, Raj Shashi, said the lack of proper infrastructure is just one of the many stumbling blocks faced by the industry that limits farmers’ products from reaching intact and lucrative markets of the urban centres.

Ultimately, the film aims to inspire viewers about the potential of the industry that could provide a possible solution to a sustainable future, while showcasing the beauty of the country’s interior that remains virtually unknown to the outside world.

A premiered screening of Farming PNG is scheduled at the Paradise Cinema today (May 31) at 5.30pm.
