Change of venue for Milne Bay Day celebrations

The 2019 Milne Bay Day celebrations in Port Moresby will now be hosted at the Gordon Secondary School on August 17th.

In a statement, the Milne Bay Community Association (MBCA) and the University of Papua New Guinea Milne Bay Students Union (UPNG MBSU) said the official venue will no longer be at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

“This was due to the National Sports Trustee Ltd (who manage the Sir John Guise Stadium) decision to move all provincial days to the Rita Flynn carpark after the disruption caused by the recent East Sepik Day. Gordon’s Secondary was therefore the only available venue.

“The program will begin at 9:30am and finish at 3pm.”

Confirmed guests will include Charles Abel –Member for Alotau Open; Isi Henry Leonard - Member for Samarai-Murua and the Acting Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea and member for Esa’ala Open, Steven Davis.

2019 Milne Bay Day celebration aims to support initiatives to assist people in Milne Bay through avenues which includes and is not limited to:

  • The Love Project: Pilot project on Vakuta Island (Trobriand Islands) to address period poverty, an initiative spearheaded by the Young Missionary Alliance
  • Goodenough Island Disaster Relief: With the first donation of K3000 made in April of 2019, the committee seeks to assist the cause with further donations towards the rehabilitation program
