Beatboxers confident as Yu Em Khax semis loom

Lazor Marx and Beatboxer Steve are confident of this weekend’s semi-final for the Yu Em Khax talent show.

The two, calling themselves NoiZiiK, are among nine acts from the heats who made it through and are the only beatboxing act for the semi-finals.

They are also part founders of the beatboxing community in PNG, a form of hip hop art, slowly becoming popular among the young urban population.

Talking with Loop PNG yesterday, the two revealed that their auditioning in the first of its kind talent show was not pre-planned.

“I updated a status on my facebook account saying that PNG needs to see something different apart from just dancing (no offence to our dancers) but it’s time for something different to spice up the entertainment arena in PNG,” said Marx.

He convinced Beatboxer Steve and together, the duo captured the judges’ interest with their skill, securing a spot in the first semi-final of Yu Em Khax.

More confident now, Beatboxer Steve is ready to improve this performance based on the suggestions and comments  of the judges during the heats.

“They said a lot of things I agree with, eye-content and all that… we’re just hoping to improve in the semis,” he said.

And if they make it through to the grand final, the beatboxing duo says, they hope to inspire fellow beatboxers and anybody else who has a unique passion.

“Just keep going on, without people’s opinion about you.”

The first semi-final airs on TVWAN Life at 7pm, this Saturday, January 14.
