8th PNG Human Rights Film Festival starts tonight

The 8th Papua New Guinea Human Rights Film Festival 2017 has commenced.

This annual event covers human rights issues in PNG. These are captured in the films to be showcased.

Among topics for this year are known issues such asylum, tribal conflict and climate change.

Also to be featured are sensitive issues like LGBT and other at risk populations.

This year's theme is Look. Know. Act. Luksave Na Kirapim Wok.

With aim to stir up conversation, each film will end with a panel discussion.

Opening the event tonight is the film on The Sustainable Development Goals: Leaving No One Behind - examples from PNG.

This film tells the stories of three families in the Coastal, highlands and Central regions of PNG, documenting the challenges they face in their daily lives.

It captures how they are overcoming these and their aspirations for the future.

The festival will run for three days commencing today and ending on Sunday.

The event is held at the Moresby Arts Theatre.

It's free and free transport is available.
