50 paintings to be exhibited

Art Evolution, in collaboration with the Royal Papua Yacht Club, is bringing together one of the biggest artist group work in Port Moresby, for the second year, this year.

Lukim Nau Art Exhibition will showcase 50 pieces from a group of 6 artists within PNG’s contemporary art scene.

These artists are Larry Santana, Albert Joseph, Philemon Yalamu, Pax Jakupa Jnr, Anderson Hibiri and a young upcoming artist, Senton Watai.

From the success of last year’s show, the team hopes for another successful event.

Lukim Nau Art Exhibition will be hosted at the Royal Papua Yacht Club, from June 17 – 18.

The exhibition begins Saturday night with the promise of a bid on two or three paintings considered favourites by art buyers.

All 50 pieces will be up for sale, and 10 percent of the proceedings goes to Lifeline PNG.

Four of the artists will be present to talk with the public. There will be a live painting show also.

“We are building momentum. We’ve learnt a lot from last year’s show, we’ve added more pieces this year and we’ll be happy for more people and to engage more with the buyers,” said Maureen Santana Lesley, Manager of Santana Creation Limited.

Grateful for the collaboration, Lesley said the exhibition will be an annual event and both parties hope to make it a bigger one, with the inclusion of other artists, down the line.

Senior artist Larry Santana has more than 30 years of experience in producing fine art and Philemon Yalamu at least 16 years.

Together with the younger emerging contemporary artists, the group seeks to learn from each other, evaluate their talents and put together a big group work.

Their aim is retrieving the past and preserving the future.

A total of K8000 from last year’s proceedings were directed to the Lifeline PNG.
