2nd runway for rebranded fashion body

The PNG Fashion and Design Week has announced its second annual runway in October 5 – 7.

The event is set to take place at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex at Waigani, Port Moresby.

The announcement also comes with some clarification of its transition this year.

The body was introduced last year as PNG Fashion Week and its first runway show hosted on August 20th, 2016, showcasing 7 talented local designers under the theme Tribal Electic.

Founder and director Janet Sios said it has rebranded its image and will now be known as ‘PNG Fashion and Design Week’, a formally registered company under IPA.

The transition includes the team, concepts and assets, among others. And as such, a new logo which represents boldness in the text typeface, and the cultural designs and creativity within the well-known bird of paradise.

“This will now be the official brand of PNG Fashion and Design Week. We will no longer be associated or affiliated with the brand ‘PNG Fashion Week’,” she said.

But the main goal still remains - to encourage and facilitate the growth of PNG fashion industry through arts and textiles.

Sios also introduced the newly-appointed Christopher Lam, a young social entrepreneur, as the new CEO of PNG Fashion and Design Week.

Lam has at least 3 years of background experience in the fashion scene, working in fashion retail, runway choreography and training, with experience at International Fashion Shows in Sydney over the years. He also co-produced and choreographed the 2016 PNG Fashion Week as the curator.

Lam said he is aware of the huge task that lies ahead and is pleased to be part of the great platform that will begin to create the foundations for what will be a bustling PNG fashion industry.
